Now that lockdown is easing there is a lot of fear about going out and enjoying things as we once did before. As the corona virus caused everything to shutdown it’s going to take some time to adjust to the new normal the world must adapt too. There will obviously be those who are afraid and those who are not afraid. While I personally am not afraid so long as precautions are taken I know others may be scared and that’s okay. But however let’s not judge others for going out and supporting businesses at this difficult time. It is not selfish. It is protecting jobs but keeping a income where we as a country don’t have the funds to provide furlough forever. The fact I went out is also wanting a bit of normality back in our lives. A bit of choice in how we live. If I want to see friends somewhere other then the four walls either of us have been confined too or a park we’ve walked hundreds of times.
So at the weekend last i decided to try eating out as I met up with my friend socially distanced. I mean socially distanced and not using it as to excuse bad behaviour. We met up with face masks, disposed of them before eating and washed our hands and kept a minimum of one metres distance at all times. We sanitised constantly throughout the day too. At the table we sat across from each other still keeping to guidelines.
So how was the dining experience you may ask? Well it went really well. We found a somewhat empty restaurant and asked if they had any tables. They did obviously as there was only one other table containing people in the whole place. Normally you need to book in advance but I guess we where lucky. The doors where kept open for airflow and all staff had masks on. The tables where bare and freshly cleaned over bar a decorative plant. Disposable menus where brought over at a distance and we decided what we wanted.
Once we ordered Cutlery and tissues were then brought over. Food and drink was placed on the table safely from extended arms at a distance. The staff where constantly cleaning hands and the tables. They wore gloves to collect the plates and cutlery we where given. We paid contactless from a distance again and then we left and put on fresh masks and santized again as we left. As we left we could see them cleaning everything already as we had got half way through the restaurant.
It didn’t feel weird or anything all the additional cleaning and measures. I think having health anxiety for years and being a germaphobe I actually felt the safest I’ve ever been in a restaurant. Once you get over stickers on the floor and the new lay out of places it feels pretty normal. I was able to relax. I was quite excited to be out again. To have my freedom back. I love my local supermarket but I cannot be bothered to cook the same crap over and over again.
The vibe was the same, music playing, the staff still as lovely as ever. The food still tasted great and we really enjoyed our selfs. I would defo go again and don’t know why I was so worried. Of course the virus still exists and there’s a risk wherever you go but I felt so much safer here sat away from others enjoying myself then I felt in tescos feeling like Cattle to the slaughter with their terrible distancing and hygiene standards.
So if your worried that’s okay. You don’t need to do anything your scared of but also remember these restaurants not only need our support but also have a legal obligation to keep you safe. So if you can take a trip to primark it is no different then eating at a restaurant! The restaurants really do try their best and feel safe. In fact safer then before.Do not do anything your not ready to do. It’s normal to feel anxious about change especially when we have been presented with nothing but fear. Many restaurants are still doing takeaway and delivery too! But from my personal experience I had a lovely time!
As a mother I love talking to other mothers and getting advice on things, one of the most important things for me is what do you feed your fussy child? Every child eats different of course but sometimes you can pick up on what others eat and try and change it around to fit you and your child.
I try not to put to much pressure on meals as if he doesn’t eat or isn’t hungry I don’t want him to associate food with negativity when I want him to be a foody like his mummy and daddy! So today’s lunch was a dunker box. Breadsticks or crackers with spreadable cheese is always a favourite as he loves to dip! A cheese string. For little mouths cut up! A yogurt which is good for dairy needs! Hand full of raspberries and chopped mango. A glass of water to teach him we drink at meal times to get more fluid intake! And a slice of teddy bear ham he gobbled up earlier!
Some things I give at lunch time he enjoys.
Wrap pizza (outing tomato paste and cheese on a wrap and putting in over for three minuites to melt the cheese).
Food that looks like things.
Beans on toast or spaghetti.
We try to change it up everyday so he doesn’t get bored of what he’s eating which he seems to enjoy we do same for dinner times too!
Something everyone in my family loves is a bolognese so if we’re cooking for just us three or quite a few it’s a sure crowd pleaser. I make everything from scratch that goes into it so I can have it for little babies that done round ours and my son loved when weaning!
What goes in it?
Peppers 3 different colours a yellow, green and red.
2 garlic cloves.
2 tablespoons of tomato purée.
Oregano a table spoon.
Basil a tablespoon.
Sprinkle of chilli flakes or more if you like spicy.
Chives a sprinkle or one diced stick.
Mince 250 grams for saucy or 500 for little sauce or quorn.
Garlic granules a sprinkle.
Vegetable oil or 1 cal spray which I use.
Cut all your veg, the smaller the better especially the mushroom if you dice it picky eaters who don’t eat mushroom (but aren’t allergic).Shove everything in pan then oil or spray on top and mix in. Add your mince ( I use 5% as it’s healthier and tastes so much better). Stir and heat on high till browned then drain juices. When juices are drained shove in your tinned tomato’s. Add purée and seasoning. Stir around until fully spread and keep on high stirring every few minutes. If you’re making pasta with this the time to do is now and when then pastas done the mince is too! The mince and sauce will combine and everything will mix nicely and it should be done in ten minutes. Simply serve and anything you don’t eat can be frozen and defrosted and reheated later! Perfect way to get toddlers to eat there vegetables as they can’t see the coloured veg as well covered in a tomatoey sauce! The meal is quite cheep and all veg and mince can be brought for about a fiver in aldi except the spices but they’re cheep enough and last many different meals!
Once you have a child it is so difficult to have any me time let alone we time as a couple. The offers of childcare dry up and sometimes your waiting months for time to just leave the house just the two of you and I know better than anyone finding childcare can be hard sometimes.
But something I’ve really concentrated on recently since I’ve stopped working is to spend more time as a we than a me when I’m tired from a busy day chasing after our child. Every night once the child’s in bed we both tidy up and I now try to be present. We’ll watch a tv series together and have a chat or a film. We’ll play games together or if we both want to do our own thing James will play on his phone and I will blog or I will watch tv and he’ll play on a game on his laptop while being in the same room and just enjoying the comfort of being next to each other. On weekends we don’t have ridiculous lay ins now so we can join the other two members of the household and have family time.
Don’t be afraid to ask others for childcare if you have in-laws or parents don’t be afraid to ask th to watch your kid or sometimes to sit round while your kid sleeps so you can go to the movies. Today we had an unexpected offer of childcare from family so we jumped at the chance. We where going to slob around the house but I decided no we would get dressed up and have a date day for a change. Be Charlie and James again. We went for a lovely Italian in the sunshine and then after we drove to the beach. We sat on the sand and had ice cream and then we went and wasted 7 quid trying to win a toy pumba and I’m very angry I didn’t win! We just enjoyed being in each other company without noses to wipe, tantrums to tackle and food to share. It was nice to go where we wanted when we wanted and not have to plan ahead (even if I had to pack a bag for my sons day out with his grandparents without us). So please just remember why you choose to be parents with your other half and remember why you fell in love as there’s no stronger team then you two. It’s important and your love is still as important as your Little one.
I keep seeing these teabag looking fruit infusers everywhere so today I thought why not and bite the bullet. Me being me always goes overtop and brought loads just in case I liked them!
I do normally enjoy water but sometimes it can taste a bit boring as I live in a VERY hard water zone we are talking rescaling kettle every week hard water. So to stop me reaching for a can of Pepsi-max or juice I thought let’s give this a whirl as I have 9000 water bottles I decided to add one more to my collection and brought a glass one. One I won’t taste the plastic and something better for the environment plus it’s cute af. So how do they work? Well the same as a tea bag! Drop in your water shake every now and then during the five minutes and then shake again and leave it in. You do not have to buy there bottle as my friend has one and says it’s basically the same thing.
The ingredients are herbal and complement each other well and the best thing is it’s sugar free so good for the teeth and my diet! I quite like the fact that the bottle is recyclable aswell and the fruitbags all decompose at some point. Being eco friendly is always a plus and using in a reusable water bottle makes the experience even better!
So far I’ve only had the rose lemonade and it tastes really nice it’s not to sweet and is like a lightly flavoured squash. You can tell it’s better for you that a fizzy that’s for sure! I can’t wait to try the rest now!
