Elijah is in a funny old stage again when he is obsessed with me. The stress of being locked in together has caused Elijah to go from this independent child to a child that needs to be around me all the time asking where I’m going if I stand up to leave the room. Although I’m flattered I do need my personal space at times just as he needs his. There is a point when it becomes a bit unhealthy.
Toddlers need to be taught boundaries. Obviously they need to learn about them or they will never understand. I make sure I spend time telling Elijah I need some personal space or I’m having five minutes to myself. I explain mummy doesn’t need to be brought toys or snacks to open while I’m on the toilet. I explain I don’t want to be climbed all over like a climbing frame all day either. I explain if I don’t like something too. Elijah has a new habit of using me as a slide I explain all the time I don’t like it and it must stop. He normally gets the memo and walks of but before when I didn’t tell him he couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t turn into a happy little human slide.
Teach through reading:
We have brought a few books about personal space. My favourite his Harrison Spader personal space invader. The book talks about being overly close to people and setting boundaries. It explains that people can get upset by it and we understand why you do it as it’s showing your love!
Spend time sharing the love:
Spend time cuddling and watching films together and lots of time playing together and explain when you want a break so your child understands. Don’t just walk of when they’re playing but tell them mummy’s going to have a little break you continue to play nicely!
Spend some timeapart if you can:
If your self isolating with another adult spend some time away from your child and let the other adult take them for a walk or entertain them while you have some alone time. This way you maintain a bit more calm and your child understands you aren’t constantly at their beck and call and it’s ok to be around others. It’s good for the child to bond with that person too. There should be other relationships formed.
FaceTime other people:
FaceTime others so you can catch up and your child can talk to them too. This reminds them you’re not the only person in the world to them and puts them a bit at ease. They love a FaceTime session as they get to be silly too!
Take a breather:
You can get really stressed out having someone in your face all day and if it was a adult you’d tell them where to go but with a child you can’t do that. So instead if you feel stressed perhaps take a few minutes outside the room have a cup of tea and calm down. When you come back take a calming moment with your child too so they can calm down too. You will feel so much better for it.
Hope my advice sometimes helps, I’m no expert but just a mum. Stay safe, Charlie x
A few weeks ago I was sitting there thinking about how I can I use Elijahs tablet to enable him to learn while having fun. That’s when we where contacted by the people at osmo! We were very fortunate to be gifted a fantastic set from the lovely Osmo in exchange for a review. And what a treat it has been too recieve such amazing items.
First of all the packaging and design of their items is so sleek and also interesting for children at the same time. Elijah could somewhat tell what was inside and was thrilled to open it up! Inside the box sent to us was the stand to be able to use the osmo app, a Mickey Mouse super studio and our favourite the play mat with squiggle magic bits!
It was super easy to download all you do is follow the instructions and your ready to play. Elijah was very excited by something new and was to eager to help set up!
Elijah enjoyed playing with squiggle magic the most. This app teaches children to design with the use of the kit where it is reflected onto the screen where it picks up their designs and brings it to life. He enjoyed matching up the pieces (with a little bit of help) to the design on the pad. We also went rogue and he made his own designs to. He enjoyed the colours and loved listing them and talking about what was happening on the screen to. We also made numbers and letters with the squiggle pieces which is fantastic for learning! He may still be a little young to enjoy the full content of the games but he did absolutely love getting involved and just needed some help from mum. We also love how space saving it is and easy to clean away. It is so handy that the squiggle bits come in a nice little box for storage!
The next product we had to test was the Mickey Mouse super studio. This was a note pad which connects to the device again which gives you activity’s to do. You draw and it appears on the screen like magic. We worked together to complete some of the activities which he enjoyed. He is a little young for this one but he did enjoy all the characters as he’s obsessed with Mickey Mouse clubhouse now! we will be using this when he’s older a lot more and we love that it comes with its own branded items such as pen and wipe and it’s super easy to clean!
Overall we love this product and it’s something we keep getting out and playing. We will explore more and more the older he gets and it’s the perfect toy to grow up and learn with. We also have lots of friends and family with children of all ages which I know will love coming round to play with it! Thankyou osmo we love it!
So as it’s mental health awareness week I thought I’d talk about my personal struggle today with one of the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Brain fog. Basically confusion and a inability to focus or really understand what’s happening at times. I did this post for the lovely Ellie over at https://alifetwintastic.blog and wanted to add to my blog to in hope it may resonate with someone.
I’ve suffered mental health issues since childhood and really sort of came to terms with it as I got a diagnosis in my teenage years. I was diagnosed with ocd, depression and anxiety. Yeah three lovely things to have all at one but hey ho. Medication and therapy later I go through stages of feeling okay and then a bit crappy again.
Since lockdown started I’ve kind of been stuck on fight or flight mode going between the two constantly. Trying to accept what’s happening and then not. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster on my emotions and truth be told being in lockdown with children can be a bit rubbish. I don’t love my son any less by admitting he can be a handful at times and that doesn’t make me a bad mum, but sometimes I wonder if he just enjoys being naughty at times. Obviously this has had a huge toll on my depression and anxiety and I’ve sort of developed brain fog again from it.
My brain fog sort of stops me talking to people at times or making no sense when I talk. I tune out. I can’t be bothered, I just can’t be in the moment. I can’t watch telly or read a book or really engage in any adult conversation at times. I often get confused on things I have to do like replying to messages and just don’t have the energy to go through with it. I often also just get the biggest headaches from it too. Don’t worry I’ve already had a mri and no Tumor (well yet).
I find brain fog really hard to deal with because sometimes I feel like I’m not living my own life. I’m surviving but it’s like I’m watching myself like I’m on autopilot as I write this blog post now I’ve been planning for days i just don’t feel here or present. I sometimes feel a bit light and complete sensory over load and can’t concentrate until it’s fixed. I feel clothes might be tight, noises are too loud, being touched makes me feel on edge and being spoken to constantly completely drains me. It’s hard to turn of and just relax. My brains defending myself in its own little way from a incredible amount of stress the way it knows how.
Obviously it’s not normal and not great so I reached out to the doctors. Of course the doctors upped my medication and I have a review in a weeks time. If you ever feel like this I strongly suggest you reach out and give your gp a call to try talk through your symptoms.
I think we always talk about our mental health but never the toll it can have on just living at times. Mental health isn’t just emotional it turns into physical symptoms. Take my Functional neurological disorder for example. I can loose function sometimes to my body and that’s how my body deals with stress. So for now I’m stuck in the what’s going on stage but it is okay. I know I’ll come out the other side. I’m functioning, living and talking normally just having problems processing it all. I’m grateful to be here safe and well and for my brain hanging on as well as it can.
Good morning everyone and i hope you are having a lovely weekend so far! This week i have had a package from the lovely people at poooli print. They very kindly gifted me this printer for a review and lots of refills to use. Anyone who knows me knows that i love taking photos and also keeping them. So when they offered to gift me a product i leaped at the chance. So here is my HONEST review on the product and the paper with it.
First of all the look of the product is super cute. It looks a big like a bird with a magnetic beak you can keep on if you want it on. The light on the device looks like a wing and shows you that the product is on. The on button looks like a happy eye which is how you turn it on, off and connect to your phone. The box is super simple to open and the instructions inside are super easy to follow i was connected and printing within a minute. Charging the device is really quick too so it doesn’t mean waiting around all day for you to print that quick shot. The battery life is fantastic also i have printed 30 photos and the battery still isn’t low yet. The paper rolls are very pretty and you can choose sticky back or any pattern you like i went for normal as i’m using them for craft and to put on a peg line at some point for home decor. It’s super easy to change them and i still haven’t gone through a full roll. The device does come with a free one! The papers good quality and doesn’t rip easily or transfer ink.
Connecting to your phone is really easy you download the app, follow the instructions and your ready to print. You can print WHATEVER you want, make a mini list, photos from your phone or even type something down and you can print it. It also gives you an option to edit the photos too and add filters extra.
I like that i am able to simply press print on any photo on my camera roll and its printed in seconds. The photo quality is high and you can see the details in the photo. The only quarrel i may have is that the photos aren’t in colour, they are in black and white. But once the first photo came out i was in love with the quality and liked that it made the photos feel aged and different from anything else i could create. I enjoyed the fact that after printing you can rip a single photo or instead a long line of photos by continuously printing like in a photo booth!
I really love this photo printer and i’m going to print some photos out to send to other family members in lock down who may be missing our faces and the memories we’ve made. I made a collage of family photos for Elijah to be able to identify his family members which he absolutely loved and i’m even going to use this for lots of craft sessions and of course journaling.

So we’ve hit mental health awareness week which is such a brilliant idea. It inspires the conversations that need to be happening and it normalises mental health that little bit more. People are being brave and coming forward with their story’s and the love is being shared.
However it’s that week where for a few days people pretend to care about others. To act like they care about being kind and sharing love. Come next Monday normality will come again and the trolls will be out and ready to play. The people that pretended to care go back to ripping people down now they think they’ve got their good person badges for a few weeks.
What I’m trying to say is, be kind. Don’t put others down. Always remember people may be fighting personal battles behind closed doors. Don’t only check on friends and family this week, check on them every week. Share the love you would want if you where suffering. Don’t just share a post and think that’s me done, I’m a incredible human being and the world knows it! Be kind to others and share your time with them.
Ask someone what they’ve been up too. Talk about the weather, a series you’ve watched anything. Reach out to those who have gone silent. Appreciate that although you may not see their mental health issue it does exist and it does hurt mentally and physically. Do not belittle people on medication and don’t identify someone to their mental health conditions.
I want you to join me in sharing the love everyday. Always reaching out, always caring and always doing what’s right. If you don’t like someone simple, cut them out of your lives don’t make them feel bad or make digs to try upset someone. Bring others up not down. Here’s to mental health I’m not glamourising it but you bloody deserve some sort of reward for suffering with it!
After Christmas the doors are stripped of their beautiful wreaths and laid naked to the winters crisp. As spring and summer creeps round you see the odd flower here and there and it makes you smile. Something that beautiful should be captured in our own homes.
After seeing a few celebrities with the most beautiful floral wreaths I decided I needed one in my life too. There is something about having a dressed up door that makes your house look a little bit more like a home! Others walk past and point to it saying how beautiful it is, making all your neighbours envious.
When the lovely violet and flo gifted me the most beautiful wreath i never new how much I needed one. I have been transformed! My door looks fancy and I feel fancy. It’s that bit of elegance I never new I needed. The care that’s gone into these is astounding. The quality is so high they look real. I will be taking it in harsher weather conditions so I can use it year after year.
Dress your door with a bit of elegance and if not dress your house! I’m thinking about swapping mine to inside when my bedrooms decorated to bring that bit of class and originality.
You can order from the lovely violet and flo here and find her Instagram below too!
