Goodbye 2019

Goodbye 2019

You’ve had your good parts and your bad parts but I’m glad to see you go. Time goes by so quickly none the less but the positivity of a new year is something that excitement everyone a little bit. So what’s happened this year?

The year started with quite a few ups, I made quite a few new friends and felt happy. We got married then we had our honeymoon with our son at centre parts. We had lots and lots of days out as a family and actively spent more time seeing friends and family. We got a zoo pass and have probably been about fifteen times. My mental health suffered many times but I overcame it each time and now have counselling sessions which are helping so much. I left my job. While it’s been hard leaving something that became my identity to a extent it has been the best experience and I guess it helped me see who my friends where too. Elijah turned two and we spent lots of time with his friends on play dates. It’s been lovely watching Elijah grow into a little boy and Elijah took his first steps early in this year. I’m looking forward to going in to the new year happily married and in love with my little family.

Using a Polaroid camera

Using a Polaroid camera

Something I wanted for years was a Polaroid camera so about 3 years ago I took the plunge and brought one in a sale. It’s been such a great purchase and something I use over and over again. I have a instax camera which is basically instant in taking and printing out a photo.

Although we have many cameras to use to capture a moment I always choose my instax for special moments. I only take photos on special occasions or something I think needs a photo, probably because the film is quite expensive to buy! But we have lots of special moments in time printed instantly. Photos of us and my family and friends. Photos of me pregnant and Elijah growing up. Photos of my wedding day moments before going down the isle. They are photos I love looking at and remember taking them and shaking the photos to speed up the process!

I find the camera best for indoors as when I’ve taken photos outside whether I’ve changed the options on the camera or not the brightness or darkness really quite effects a picture. Not that this should stop you from experimenting as I have the odd good photo such as looking down from Snowden. The films are quite expensive at about a tenner for a pack but it’s a pound for a Snapshot in time which will bring joy so it’s worth it. It also teaches you to live in the moment and cherish the most important moments in your life.

Finding my own style since becoming older.

Finding my own style since becoming older.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve sort of find my own style now. I no longer go for what’s in fashion but instead things I like the look of. I sometimes go out of my comfort zone and buy something wild i would never wear. For years I’ve avoided dresses and skirts and retreated to my comfy leggings and jeans a little too tight that still do up.

This year I’ve really enjoyed buying clothes. I’ve tried thrift shopping a lot more and have been buying from new shops and treating myself. I’ve found a new love of joules and Laura ashley clothing. It’s soft, hard wearing and stylish. The patterns are a bit more sophisticated but timeless so there is no time stamp on whatever you buy there. I’ve experimented with shoes and brought my first pair of knee high boots at the expense of my poor feet. Who knew a high boot would hurt as much as high heels on a night out!

I’ve been experimenting with skirts and dresses having been so hot and I’ve signally found dresses and skirts I like that are both cosy and stylish. I have found George’s jeans and skirts to be the best sizing to my size with comfort. I’ve brought lots of new bags and accessories to my outfit because just because I have to be prepared as a mum doesn’t mean I can’t have a nice bag! But most of all I think I’ve found me. I’ve been wearing clothes I honestly love and don’t second guess myself in. Even if that does mean my wardrobe is full of my ever growing collection of navy striped tops.

Hitting the December sales.

Hitting the December sales.

We all know after Christmas everything is price slashed and the alore of getting a bargain is too tempting to pass by. As it’s so busy be tactical when you go shopping. Only buy what you really want and not something because it seems to good to be true. Make a mental list of what you want and where you want to go. Go into stores and go where you need don’t look at everything just what you want. It’s gonna be busy so being speedy saves you being part of the mob standing and staring at every last bargain. Don’t be that person that buys the whole stock buy a few if you must buy remember others might want a bargain too.

I wanted some body products as for the first Christmas in ages I only got one set! With a small amount of body wash I thought well it’s the perfect excuse to go buy myself some luxury items while on sale. I made a note I wanted to go to lush and too boots. Boots was heaving so I went straight to the section I needed too and decided to get a feather and down gift set and sleep mask. I struggle with sleeping so wanted to try their pillow spray and body wash so at half price I jumped at it and was straight to the till. I then went to lush. Lush was pure hell but I’m glad I went in as I went looking for snow fairy but the shelves had been cleared. Wanting to be adventurous I smelt some cookie dough scrub and yog nog products and they smelt Devine so being half price I brought the biggest containers I could and joined the massive que. I loved the smell of the yog nog so much went I went to town again in the evening I ran into lush on hope they had the body spray and they did and half price again I ran to that till! I will hit the sales again at some point but when I have something in mind so I’m not wasteful and buying useless junk.

Getting my nails done for the first time.

Getting my nails done for the first time.

Having worked on healthcare for the last 6 years I’ve only just been able to have them done now not working. My husband wanted to treat me for Christmas so said he’d pay for me to get whatever I wanted so I went for gel extensions and some nail art too.

I designed my nails with the beautician and we finally agreed on a design after me changing my mind 10279 times. Gel extentions work basically by prepping and filing your nails then applying some gel and moulding it over and over under a uv lamp. You then get the art and paint done and this again takes a few coats and time under the uv light over and over. The process is long. I didn’t expect it to take so long I as there 4 hours but the sculpting takes a long time. This may be due to the lady doing my nails being new or a perfectionist but it was a very long time to be sitting still for. Something I’d have to book for morning of having done again. Although I will say it was all worth it as I absolutely love my winter/ Christmas nails and look at them all day everyday! Next time however I will get them shorter as I can’t even put earrings in haha!

Taking our toddler to meet Santa.

Taking our toddler to meet Santa.

This year we decided we wanted to meet Santa so we thought what better activity then doing the Santa experience at the zoo! We got to ride Santa’s sleigh, look at all his animals and get a cookie from Santa’s elves. Then we met Santa and got given a lovely husky teddy! The Santa was really lovely and Elijah was a little overwhelmed at first. But when Santa talked to him he warmed up and talked to him. He adores his husky and keeps cuddling and talking to him.

We took him to see Santa last year when he was one and he couldn’t of cared any less. He didn’t understand what was going on and we went more to see friends and have a lovely fry up. He was so good today and is starting to learn what Christmas is and was patient waiting in the long que.

The place was so pretty and well decorated, with lots of moving animal robots and interactive bits. We took some pictures of family’s in the que so they had photos of their special day too and then we took some with Santa. We then went to look at all his favourite animals and ride the Christmas train.I’m excited to see how he experiences it every year to come now.

Why do we no longer buy the radio times all year round?

Why do we no longer buy the radio times all year round?

It’s a silly thing I was thinking about the other week when I saw the magazine on the shelf and remembered my youth. I remember sitting at my grandmas every Saturday morning and flicking through her radio times to see what was on the telly this week. I used to read snapshots of what was going to happen on soaps and look through the boring adverts. Now it’s been years since I’ve read a radio times unless it Christmas time. I think it’s because it’s wasteful all the paper wastage each week for a highlight of tv when you can look it up online.

I think aswell we are in a generation where everything is on our phone. We have Netflix, now tv, amazon and countless other streaming services which we watch more often then normal tv. Even though we pay a ridiculous tv license for basically no reason. This Christmas I’m trying to highlight things that look good on the radio times and watch them. To watch different things. I want to start doing this with Elijah when he’s older, I want him to be getting excited to choose and watch things so we don’t miss things we might like!
