You’ve had your good parts and your bad parts but I’m glad to see you go. Time goes by so quickly none the less but the positivity of a new year is something that excitement everyone a little bit. So what’s happened this year?
The year started with quite a few ups, I made quite a few new friends and felt happy. We got married then we had our honeymoon with our son at centre parts. We had lots and lots of days out as a family and actively spent more time seeing friends and family. We got a zoo pass and have probably been about fifteen times. My mental health suffered many times but I overcame it each time and now have counselling sessions which are helping so much. I left my job. While it’s been hard leaving something that became my identity to a extent it has been the best experience and I guess it helped me see who my friends where too. Elijah turned two and we spent lots of time with his friends on play dates. It’s been lovely watching Elijah grow into a little boy and Elijah took his first steps early in this year. I’m looking forward to going in to the new year happily married and in love with my little family.
Something I wanted for years was a Polaroid camera so about 3 years ago I took the plunge and brought one in a sale. It’s been such a great purchase and something I use over and over again. I have a instax camera which is basically instant in taking and printing out a photo.
Although we have many cameras to use to capture a moment I always choose my instax for special moments. I only take photos on special occasions or something I think needs a photo, probably because the film is quite expensive to buy! But we have lots of special moments in time printed instantly. Photos of us and my family and friends. Photos of me pregnant and Elijah growing up. Photos of my wedding day moments before going down the isle. They are photos I love looking at and remember taking them and shaking the photos to speed up the process!
I find the camera best for indoors as when I’ve taken photos outside whether I’ve changed the options on the camera or not the brightness or darkness really quite effects a picture. Not that this should stop you from experimenting as I have the odd good photo such as looking down from Snowden. The films are quite expensive at about a tenner for a pack but it’s a pound for a Snapshot in time which will bring joy so it’s worth it. It also teaches you to live in the moment and cherish the most important moments in your life.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve sort of find my own style now. I no longer go for what’s in fashion but instead things I like the look of. I sometimes go out of my comfort zone and buy something wild i would never wear. For years I’ve avoided dresses and skirts and retreated to my comfy leggings and jeans a little too tight that still do up.
This year I’ve really enjoyed buying clothes. I’ve tried thrift shopping a lot more and have been buying from new shops and treating myself. I’ve found a new love of joules and Laura ashley clothing. It’s soft, hard wearing and stylish. The patterns are a bit more sophisticated but timeless so there is no time stamp on whatever you buy there. I’ve experimented with shoes and brought my first pair of knee high boots at the expense of my poor feet. Who knew a high boot would hurt as much as high heels on a night out!
I’ve been experimenting with skirts and dresses having been so hot and I’ve signally found dresses and skirts I like that are both cosy and stylish. I have found George’s jeans and skirts to be the best sizing to my size with comfort. I’ve brought lots of new bags and accessories to my outfit because just because I have to be prepared as a mum doesn’t mean I can’t have a nice bag! But most of all I think I’ve found me. I’ve been wearing clothes I honestly love and don’t second guess myself in. Even if that does mean my wardrobe is full of my ever growing collection of navy striped tops.
We all know after Christmas everything is price slashed and the alore of getting a bargain is too tempting to pass by. As it’s so busy be tactical when you go shopping. Only buy what you really want and not something because it seems to good to be true. Make a mental list of what you want and where you want to go. Go into stores and go where you need don’t look at everything just what you want. It’s gonna be busy so being speedy saves you being part of the mob standing and staring at every last bargain. Don’t be that person that buys the whole stock buy a few if you must buy remember others might want a bargain too.
I wanted some body products as for the first Christmas in ages I only got one set! With a small amount of body wash I thought well it’s the perfect excuse to go buy myself some luxury items while on sale. I made a note I wanted to go to lush and too boots. Boots was heaving so I went straight to the section I needed too and decided to get a feather and down gift set and sleep mask. I struggle with sleeping so wanted to try their pillow spray and body wash so at half price I jumped at it and was straight to the till. I then went to lush. Lush was pure hell but I’m glad I went in as I went looking for snow fairy but the shelves had been cleared. Wanting to be adventurous I smelt some cookie dough scrub and yog nog products and they smelt Devine so being half price I brought the biggest containers I could and joined the massive que. I loved the smell of the yog nog so much went I went to town again in the evening I ran into lush on hope they had the body spray and they did and half price again I ran to that till! I will hit the sales again at some point but when I have something in mind so I’m not wasteful and buying useless junk.
Having worked on healthcare for the last 6 years I’ve only just been able to have them done now not working. My husband wanted to treat me for Christmas so said he’d pay for me to get whatever I wanted so I went for gel extensions and some nail art too.
I designed my nails with the beautician and we finally agreed on a design after me changing my mind 10279 times. Gel extentions work basically by prepping and filing your nails then applying some gel and moulding it over and over under a uv lamp. You then get the art and paint done and this again takes a few coats and time under the uv light over and over. The process is long. I didn’t expect it to take so long I as there 4 hours but the sculpting takes a long time. This may be due to the lady doing my nails being new or a perfectionist but it was a very long time to be sitting still for. Something I’d have to book for morning of having done again. Although I will say it was all worth it as I absolutely love my winter/ Christmas nails and look at them all day everyday! Next time however I will get them shorter as I can’t even put earrings in haha!
This year we decided we wanted to meet Santa so we thought what better activity then doing the Santa experience at the zoo! We got to ride Santa’s sleigh, look at all his animals and get a cookie from Santa’s elves. Then we met Santa and got given a lovely husky teddy! The Santa was really lovely and Elijah was a little overwhelmed at first. But when Santa talked to him he warmed up and talked to him. He adores his husky and keeps cuddling and talking to him.
We took him to see Santa last year when he was one and he couldn’t of cared any less. He didn’t understand what was going on and we went more to see friends and have a lovely fry up. He was so good today and is starting to learn what Christmas is and was patient waiting in the long que.
The place was so pretty and well decorated, with lots of moving animal robots and interactive bits. We took some pictures of family’s in the que so they had photos of their special day too and then we took some with Santa. We then went to look at all his favourite animals and ride the Christmas train.I’m excited to see how he experiences it every year to come now.
It’s a silly thing I was thinking about the other week when I saw the magazine on the shelf and remembered my youth. I remember sitting at my grandmas every Saturday morning and flicking through her radio times to see what was on the telly this week. I used to read snapshots of what was going to happen on soaps and look through the boring adverts. Now it’s been years since I’ve read a radio times unless it Christmas time. I think it’s because it’s wasteful all the paper wastage each week for a highlight of tv when you can look it up online.
I think aswell we are in a generation where everything is on our phone. We have Netflix, now tv, amazon and countless other streaming services which we watch more often then normal tv. Even though we pay a ridiculous tv license for basically no reason. This Christmas I’m trying to highlight things that look good on the radio times and watch them. To watch different things. I want to start doing this with Elijah when he’s older, I want him to be getting excited to choose and watch things so we don’t miss things we might like!
Something I’ve always wanted to do is experiment with things I wasn’t aloud due to my job. For my whole life I’d never had eyelash extentions or my nails done properly so I’ll be doing my nails tomorrow and I had my extentions done the other week and here I’m gonna do a little review of my experience. It may not be same for everyone but was my experience non the less.
Having them fitted, I chose individual lashes and didn’t take too long to do. The glue stung my eyes at first but I got used to it pretty much straight away. I had my eyes open and looked down and that’s all I had to do. Easy peasy.
How I looked when I had them done. When I looked in the morning I thought these are a bit much and not suiting me atall. They grew on me as the night went on and I really liked them the next day. The plus size of wearing these lashes is that they didn’t require any other makeup and I actually didn’t wear makeup atall wearing them.
Although they looked nice they where quite heavy and a bit irritating. You can’t itch your eye so you end up really irritated and rubbing around and getting no where. Washing your face is really hard to do and washing your eyelashes painful and very tricky. I ended up having my first breakout in months because I don’t feel I could cleanse and clean properly. They get dirty quickly like if it’s windy the grit gets stuck to them and again they’re a pain to clean. When they fall out in one they start to look silly and both have to come off. Taking them off is really annoying and a little painful really and I didn’t expect it to hurt. You end up really conscious about them all the time and worry you’ll knock or wipe them off constantly and constantly check none are missing. Young children are very fascinated and try to yank them off and it hurts!
I don’t think I’d get them again and would probably just wear falsies if I wanted a dramatic look again. Although they looked lovely on I honestly didn’t feel very comfortable in them and wouldn’t do them again unless perhaps I was going on holiday where I wouldn’t be wearing make up due to the sun or something. But I did feel very fabulous.
Ignore my red eyebrows and the terrible photo but I took it when I’d just had my brows waxed and boy do I go red!
At the weekend we celebrated another of my grandmas birthdays by popping round with some flowers to brighten up her day. She was absolutely over the moon with them which goes to show spending a fortune isn’t everything it’s the thought that counts. My grandma as I call her is my great grandma as I call my mums mum nanny. This makes my grandma my sons great-great grandma meaning that there are five generations at once. It’s an incredible gift having so many family members at once and being able to have my child spend time with older generations too.
I’ve always loved my grandma as she always used to tell me about her time in the land army from planes being shot down and her being chased from German fighters too her riding tractors and doing a hard days work. She’d tell me how she lived on the road I live on now and that her house was bombed in the blitz and she has 7 brothers and sisters all share the house with her and the mum and dad. As someone who loves history I’ve always enjoyed reminiscing and enjoying family time with grandparents too. Time Is precious but memories last forever…
A family tradition of mine has always been to give a Christmas Eve gift. Normally it would be something like some pjs with some chocolates or something for the bath or/and a activity to do. I remember being young and the excitement to open my gift, have a bath and wear my new pjs. Then sitting all excited in bed till I eventually fell asleep all shiny and comfy.
It’s something I’ve been keen to pass onto my son and husband and keep it as one of our Christmas traditions. So every year me and James have brought pjs for one another and a pair for Elijah. This year I wanted to do a little fun box instead of spoiling Elijah lots of different days with treats I got him some Christmassy treats to give on Christmas Eve. obviously he won’t eat all the sweets at once but I thought I’d give them all at once. So what I’ve got him is a little tsum tsum Disney simba that lights up which he’ll love as he adores the lion king. A Christmas cup to put some Christmas milk in before bed, colouring book to do some activities for the day, some kinetic sand to play with anything to keep him busy for the day so I can organise presents and plans. I brought him some chocolates and marshmallows which comes with a beaker which he can use aswell. He also has some pjs but they’re matching ones with us so didn’t want to give as a gift this year! I brought almost everything from Poundland or bnm so it all cost me under ten pounds which was quite a bargain. I can’t wait to see him open and play with it all. It may a bit ott but when else can I go a bit ott.
